Do You Really Need to Give Your SSN Because It’s Asked For?

How many times have you walked into a new doctor’s or dentist’s office and been asked to fill out paperwork? My guess is every time. And usually on the application is a box for your Social Security number.

Should you give it to them? And do they really need it? How about all the other places that routinely ask for your SSN?
